Essential Eye Yoga Exercises
1. Palming (Hasta Netra Kriya)
Rub palms together to generate warmth. Cup palms over closed eyes without pressing. Relax in darkness for 2-5 minutes. Breathe deeply.
2. Eye Rotations
Look up, then slowly rotate eyes clockwise in a full circle. Complete 5 circles, then reverse direction. Keep head still throughout.
3. Near-Far Focus
Hold thumb 6 inches from face, focus on it. Then shift focus to an object 10+ feet away. Alternate 10 times.
4. Trataka (Candle Gazing)
Place a candle at eye level, 2 feet away. Gaze steadily at the flame without blinking as long as comfortable. Close eyes and visualize the flame. Repeat 3 times.
5. Figure 8s
Imagine a large figure 8 (infinity symbol) in front of you. Trace it with your eyes slowly. Repeat 10 times, then reverse direction.
The 20-20-20 Rule
Every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds. This simple practice prevents eye strain during screen work.
When to Practice
🌅 Morning - Wake up your eyes gently
💻 Work breaks - Every 20-30 minutes
🌙 Evening - Release accumulated tension
Precautions
⚠️ Remove contact lenses before eye exercises
⚠️ Stop if you experience pain or discomfort
⚠️ Consult an eye doctor if you have existing conditions
